Belief in upbāt (Pali: upaddava, inauspiciousness) is adopted from ancient time until present. The happenings are regarded as inauspicious, for examples, a falcon or a hawk catching on the roof of a house and sounds; the ring of a gong, or a drum, or a bell without beating. These happening would be a signal of danger such as sickness of people, fire on the houses, attract by enemies.
