In the Buddha’s time, a poor man lived in Kosamphi who earned his living by selling grass and fire wood. One day he saw a millionaire who was building a sala (a hut) and a well for the public near a public road. He asked the millionaire why he did this and when he understood the meaning he proposed the millionaire to buy his son from him. He received 500 Kahapana (old money in India) and spent a half of the money to build a sala and a well. He organized a celebration ceremony for the sala and offered it to the Buddha and the Sangha. When he died he entered the Tavatimsa Heaven.
