While the Buddha was dwelling in Kapilavatthu, he delivered a sermon to his disciples and described Dāna – alms-giving and Sīla - morality. The results of alms-giving and observing precepts depend on the practitioners. When people wish to gain lokiya (mundane) things such as becoming a king or a millionaire or wealthy, Indra, Brahma, or an emperor, their wishes are regarded as careless because they follow their own, personal cravings. when they wish to gain lokuttara (supramundane) things, such as attaining Nirvana, they are regarded as careful.
Colophon:
Folio 35 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat (CS) 1289, a moeng mao year (year of the rabbit), on the second waxing day of the fourth [lunar] month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), the writing [of this manuscript] was finished at the time of the temple drum at 4.00 pm. Thu (Tiao) Kham On and her husband, Sathu (Tiao) Maha Lek were the principal initiators and all their relatives. [They] realized that the Teachings of the Buddha might decline and vanish. Therefore, they had the pleasant minds and the religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Maha munlanipphan, to prolong the life of Buddhism to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our wishes come true. May we reach the three stages of happiness with Nirvāna as the ultimate goal without any troubles. Nibbāna paccayo hotu no niccaṃ paranaṃ sukhaṃ (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvāna which is the greatest bliss, continuously).
