Description of manuscript content:
While residing at Jetavana, the Buddha delivered a sermon to King Mahanama and other people describing the merits derived from giving various kinds of gifts. For example: people who give toothbrushes to monks will gain merit by getting fragrant breath; those who donate one thousand balls of rice to worship the Triple Gem will gain merit in the form of wealth and properties; those who make a prasat with flowers and a lotus to worship the Buddha will gain merit for twelve kappa (eons), etc.

Folio 9 on the recto side: In BE 2516, a saru year (year of the cow), on the seventh waning day of the eighth [lunar] month, [the writing was finished] in the afternoon at 2.00 pm. Sathu (monk) Chanh from Vat That Nòi (Vat Maha That) had the religious faith to have found the palm-leaves and then sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Sòng Sapphathan (Merit Derived from Giving Gifts) to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the time of Mettaya (Maitreya) Buddha entering Nirvāna in the future. Nibbānaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ niccaṃ dhuvaṃ (Nirvāna is the greatest bliss, constantly, certainly). Bhikkhu Sitthipanyo Sichan from Vat Ban Xiang Muan is the scribe.
