On one occasion the Buddha was dwelling at the Jetavanna Monasery in Savatthi, Ananda Thera questioned the Buddha about a person who has the religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha is ordained as novice or monk. What benefits will the person get? The Buddha answered that a person who has the religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha and allows his/her son to become a novice, he/she will get merit for eight Kap (eon) and 16 Kap for a monk.
