Description of manuscript content:

Vannapavet or Vanappavesanakhandaṃ (the forest-entry section) is the fourth section of the 13 sections of the Vetsantara jataka. The contents describe that Prince Vessantara led Princess Maddi, Jali and Kanha to Mount Vamka. On their way to Mount Vamka they welcomed by King Jetarat. The king asked Prince Vessantara to rule Jetarat kingdom together with him. But Prince Vessantara denied and asked the king the direction to Vamka hill. When they arrived at Mount Vamka, they separately stayed in two Sala (pavilion) which had already been erected there.

Colophon:

Folio 21 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat (CS) 1269, a moeng mot year, on the ninth waning day of the third [lunar] month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), a kot set day. The writing of this manuscript finished in the morning between 7.30 – 9.00 o’clock. Phò Khamfong and Mae Khamfong (Father and Mother of Mr. Khamfong) had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Maha Vessantara Jataka to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. Nibbāna paccayo hotu no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ anāgate kāle (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana which is the greatest bliss in the future, constantly and certainly).
