Once upon a time, the Bodhisatta was born as Canthakuman, a son of a merchant in Pharanasi city. Before Nantha, his mother, got pregnancy, she dreamed of a hermit giving her the moon; she therefore named his son as Cantha (moon) Kuman or Manicanthakuman. When the son was sixteen years old, he was a merchant selling products in different cities. He bought animals and set them free and gave alms-offering to a hermit. During his way back the argosy shipwrecked. He swam with great patience until he was unconscious. The angel Mekhala brought him to Suwannaphum where the king had just died. The court officials thus had a horse carriage be presented to a highly merit-accumulated person. The carriage stopped at the spot of Cantha Kuman sleeping; he was thus enthroned as a king.
