Once upon a time, Lord Buddha was teaching the Dhamma to Pu Sae Ya Sae (legendary grandparents) inhabiting the Ucchupabbatā forest, namely, the Suthep Mountain at Chiang Mai. He gave them his Teachings and one of his hairs. They cherished and worshiped the hair. Later, God InDra gave them a golden casket to keep the hair. In the reign of King Küna, he invited the venerable monk Sumana who had found the hair relic to propagate the Teachings of the Buddha in Chiang Mai.
