Description of manuscript content:
Law: The manuscript contains the beliefs in taboos of the Lan Na people and explains a Dhamma story about the moral faith and moral respect of a couple, the virtues of righteous rulers, fairness in judgement, decent behaviors of people from different social status, and the family lineage of Prince Sitthattha (Buddha Gotama).
Custom/ Ritual: The text is divided into two sections: spelling words for male elephants and spelling words for female elephants and is used to control elephants under the mahouts or keepers.
Didactics: Precepts for lay people are related to the worship of the Triple gems, the observation of the Five Precepts, and the right occupations. The gratitude of parents, quality of friends, rightness of being male and female and instruction for happy laity life are also included.
