Once upon a time, while Lord Buddha Gotama taught the Dhamma in different cities, King Pasenthikoson could not see him. He therefore decided to create a Buddha image made of sandalwood; so that people could worship the image during Lord Buddha’s absence.
Later, a king from Suwannaphum sent an ambassador to request the Buddha image to be installed in his city. The Buddha image was then requested to be reinstalled in different regions until it ended up being installed in Phayao. Later, the king of Chiang Mai brought the image to Chiang Mai.
