The story tells the benefits derived from giving offerings to the monks who are attending the parivasakam (probation) retreat. The donors will obtain much merit. Those who built an abode or offered food to the monks also will gain a lot of merit. After the death, they will be born as Devas and Indra in the heavens and enjoy heavenly prosperity. Then they will be born in the human world and become the mighty kings.
