Description of manuscript content:
The first fascicle of the story of Venerable Uppagupta Thera. In BE 218, King Asoka of Pataliputra organized the celebration for his 84,000 stupas. At the time, the Mara appeared and destined a heavy rain to destroy the ceremony. The Sangha sent a young novice to invite Upagupta Thera who has been living in the underworld to suppress the Mara. Uppagupta Thera was fighting the Mara with his supernatural power. Finally, the Mara was controlled. The Venerable tied the Mara's neck with a carcass of a dog and attached him with the Sumeru Mount until the celebration fully finished. At the end, the Mara wished to become a Buddha in the future and showed his body appearance in the form of the Buddha for the Venerable and people.
