Bāhuṃ or Jayamaṅgala Gāthā contains eight episodes which depict how the Buddha drew on inner power in order to triumph over external malevolent forces. Each verse expresses an act of will born of unshakable faith in the efficacy of spiritual power, which can be tapped for the welfare of oneself and others. First stanza – Victory Mara; second stanza – conquering Alavaka (Yakka); third stanza – taming Naragiri (drunken elephant); forth stanza – subduing Angulimala; fifth stanza – rout of Cinca (falsely accusing the Buddha); sixth stanza – vanishing Saccaka; seventh stanza – subduing Nandopananda (hostile King of Nagas); and eight stanza – conquest over Baka Brahma.
