The story tells of two brother monks who had been ordained as monks by the Buddha. One day, the two brother monks asked an elder monk “how many tasks are there in the Buddha’s Teachings?” The elder monk said “there are two tasks including the task of study and the task of meditation practice. Then the older brother chose the task of meditation practice. With his serious practice, he obtained arahantship. The younger brother chose the task of study. He finished the three baskets of the doctrine.
