While residing at Ghijjhakuta Mount in Rajagir, the Buddha visited Ananda Thera who was aged and suffering with illness. When Ananda reported the Buddha about the situation of his illness which was still in bad. Then the Buddha preached Sarakarivijjha Sutta to Ananda and advised him to remember and recite the Sutta. By chanting this Sutta regularly, the illness would be relieved. The previous Buddha such as the Buddha Vessabu, Kukkusanda, Kassapa, and others also preached this Sutta in order to be benefits of people.

Folio 20 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat 12 hundred 25 (corresponding with CS 1225), a hap pao year, on the ninth waning day of the twelfth [lunar] month, a tao set day, the second day of the week (Monday), the writing of this manuscript was finished at noon (between 10.30-12.00 o’clock). Mae Thao Sui, Hòm Kòk Chiang and her children and grand-children who owned the palm leaved and had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Salakarivasasut to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our wishes and desires come true, may we have a long life, may we all be released from diseases and dangers. Nibbāna paccayo hoto no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvāna, constantly and certainly).
