The text tells the story of Gaddhanakumāra, who set out to find his lost father. Along his journey, he befriended two companions. They encountered a giant cricket in a forest, which attacked and knocked out the two friends. Gaddhanakumāra saved them and cut the cricket's legs, but they lacked fire to cook them. A Yakkha, disguised as a saint, tricked them but was ultimately defeated by Gaddhanakumāra. The Yakkha offered a magic weapon in exchange for his life. Continuing their journey, they saved a village from the Yakkha's attacks, revived the dead villagers, and Gaddhanakumāra appointed one friend as the city’s governor.
