Description of manuscript content:

The contents of this manuscript consist of Pāli Gāthā “Verse” describing a story of Bodhisatta when he was born as a prince Vessantara. The manuscript consists of thirteen Khaṇḍha “section” and each section is composed with different numbers of Gāthā. In total there are 1,000 Gāthās.

ปริปุณณะ บอริมวรแล้วยามกองงายแกล่ข้าน้อยแล ฯ คาถามหาเวสสันตระจริยา ผูกต้น เดือน 12 ออก 5 ฅ่ำ พร่ำว่าได้ 2 จุฬศกได้ 1216 ตัว ปลีกาบยีแล ฯ สาธุเจ้าตนใดเล่า ตกที่ไหน พอใส่หื้อข้าแด่เทิอะเจ้าเอิย คาถามหาเวสสันตระ จริยา ผูกต้นแล ฯ [The writing of this manuscript] was completed at the time of the morning drum. Gathā Mahāvessantara Cariyā, first fascicle. [The writing of the manuscript was completed] on the fifth waxing-moon day of the twelfth [lunar] month, on the second day of the week, CS 1216, a kap yi year. Monks and novices who use the manuscript are suggested correcting any mistakes left. Gathā Mahāvessantara Cariyā, first fascicle. Remark: The date corresponds to Sunday, 27 August 1854 (1216 Bhadrapada 5).
