Description of manuscript content:
This manuscript narrates the story of a king of Takkasila who moved his troops to defeat several polities (müang). The polities that neglected surrendering to the king were defeated. Most of the cities were fearful to his troops and surrendered, except for Mithilā city. The citizens of Mithilā fought against him to guard their city until they eventually won.
Colophon:
The writing of this manuscript was completed in CS 1253, a ruang mao year, on the sixth waxing-moon day of the eleventh [lunar] month, the third day of the week, a kat sai day as the Tai say, at the time of the morning drum, late morning. Novice Ananda wrote this manuscript titled Suvaṇṇajumbū, the fourteenth fascicle. May I possess sharp wisdom. May this merit be transferred to my family members and my teachers. Monks and novices who use this manuscript are suggested to be careful while reading because my handwriting was not beautiful and unstable with small letters looking like hens’ eyes and big letters looking like elephants’ eyes. I am not skillful in writing. It is shameful.
Other notes:
The date corresponds to 1253 Sravana 6 = Tuesday, 11 August 1891. This day was indeed a kat sai day.
