When the Buddha was dwelling at the Jetavana Monasery in Savatthi, Ananda Thera questioned him about a person who had the religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha and who was ordained as a novice or monk. What benefits would the person gain? The Buddha answered that a person who had the religious faith in the Teachings of the Buddha and allowed his/her son to become a novice, he/she would gain merit for eight Kap (eon) and for 16 Kap when he/she allowed the son to become a monk.
