The text is read by monks in a sermon and describes the virtue and power of a sutta known as Bojjhanga Paritta (the Factors of Awakening Protection). The Sutta is in Pali and popularly chanted for a sick person who will be encouraged to recover. Once, the Buddha visited Maha Kassapa Thera who was ill. The Buddha chanted this Sutta for him. When Maha Kassapa Thera listened to the chanting, he recovered. Later, the Buddha also chanted this Sutta to Maha Moggallana Thera while he was ill. After chanting, the monk also recovered.
