The text explains the Sangayana or Saṅgīti (the first Buddhist Council) which started three months after the passing away of the Buddha and lasted for seven months to complete. The Council was organized at the Sattapanna Cave in Rajagaha, attended by 500 arahants, and patroned by King Ajatasattu. The Venerable Maha Kassapa presided over the council. The Venerable Upali was chosen to answer the questions on the Vinaya and Venerable Ananda to recite all the Suattas (Discourses).
