In the Buddha’s lifetime, there were two orphan brothers named Sukkhato and Sukkhata who lived in the city of Singharajaburi. Due to poverty, they agreed to sell Sukkhata to a wealthy man for 10,000 pieces of silver and 1,000 pieces of gold. They promised to let Sukkhato spend the money to do business, so that he could collect enough money to ransom Sukkhata from the wealthy man. When Sukkhato got money, he did not keep the promise but spent the money for his wedding with a daughter of another rich family.
