Description of manuscript content:
The text describes the God Indra’s message given to people in the world. The people should accumulate merit by giving alms, observing the precepts, meditating and listening to the Dhamma. Thirty years after the death of the Buddha, there would no longer be any arahants. In Sangkat (Cullasakkarat) 1000, King Dhammikarat (probably meaning King Asoka) would support the Teachings of the Buddha and Buddhism would flourish. After that, it would be the dark age of the devil. Only the ones with morality would be safe.
Colophon:
Folio 13 on the verso side: In Culasakkarat 100 that (CS 1200), a poek set year, on the sixth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh [lunar] month, the second day of the week (Monday), a kab cai day, in the afternoon (12:00–13:30), the writing was finished. Chao Hua Hòk Sai had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Tamnan Phayain to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. Nibbāna paccaya hotu no dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ niccaṃ (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly). May all my wishes and desires be fulfilled.
