The Pabbajā or ordination ceremony is one of the Sangha formal acts. The Buddha formulated the regulations for the ceremony. In the Buddha’s lifetime, a brahman who had killed his mother (matricide) came to the Sangha and asked for being ordained as a monk for the purpose of escaping his crime. The Buddha formulated the regulations by adding an exlusion of people who had conducted matricide.
