Description of manuscript content:
While the Buddha was dwelling in Kapilavatthu, he delivered a sermon to his disciples describing Dāna (alms-giving) and Sīla (morality). The results of alms-giving and observing the precepts depend on the practitioners. Those who wish to gain lokiya (mundane) results such as becoming a king, an affluent, God Indra, Brahma or an emperor, their wishes are regarded as carelessness because they follow their own cravings. If they wish to gain lokuttara (supra-mundane) results such as Nirvana, they are regarded as careful.
Colophon:
Folio 35 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat thousand and 273 (should be CS 1273), on the twelfth day of the waxing moon of the first [lunar] month, the second day of the week (Monday), at the time of the sunset drum (13:30–15:00), the writing of this manuscript was finished. Phia Mün Khansai together with his wife, Nang Phia Pòng, and all siblings had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Munlanipphan to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our wishes and desires be fulfilled. Sādhu sādhu anumodāmi nibbāna paccaya hotu no niccaṃ niccaṃ dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ (Well done! We say amen. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly).
