Once, the Buddha was dwelling at the Jetavana Monastery in Savatthi. When the night was far spent, a deity whose surpassing splendor illuminated the entire Jeta Grove came to the presence of the Buddha, drew near, respectfully saluted the Buddha and stood at one side. Standing thus, he addressed the Buddha in verses: many deities and men, yearning after good things, have pondered on Blessings. Pray, tell me the Supreme Blessing. The Buddha addressed in verse: not to associate with the fool but with the wise and honor those who are worth being honored. Then the Buddha delivered a sermon of 38 kinds of Blessings.
