Description of manuscript content:
While residing at Mount Gijjhakuta near Rajgir, the Buddha delivered a sermon of Akaravatta Sutta to Sariputta Thera. The Sutta contains five verses starting from Navaradiguna Verse to Paramidatta Verse. The Akaravatta Sutta is more powerful than other suttas in preventing those who follow against harm. Those who always recall the sutta would be safe from various dangers and have cleaned minds. The person who listens, writes, recites, fallows and chants would be refrained from 30 kinds of dangers: ferocious animals, kings, water and fire, bad humans and devils, etc.
Colophon:
Folio 22 on the verso side: The writing of this manuscript was finished in the late evening between 19:30–21:00. My hand is rough. The handwriting is not beautiful. My waist is so painful. Young novices, please consider [the manuscript] by yourselves. Sathu and Chao Mòm, please correct the text for me if there are some mistake left. Folio 23 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat 2894 (should be changed to CS 1294), a ka hao year, on the eighth day of the waxing moon of the third [lunar] month, a kap sanga day, [the writing was finished]. Saen Mai Pia, together with children and all relatives, had the religious faith to collect palm leaves to be provided for the making of this manuscript entitled Akaravattasut to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5 thousand years. May all our wishes and desires be fulfilled. May we all reach the three stages of happiness and finally reach Nirvana. May this not be ignored because it is what we desire.-
