While the Buddha was dwelling in Kapilavatthu, he delivered a sermon to his disciples describing Dāna (alms-giving) and Sīla (morality). The results of alms-giving and observing the precepts depend on the practitioners. Those who wish to gain lokiya (mundane) results such as becoming a king, an affluent, God Indra, Brahma, or an emperor are regarded as carelessness because they follow their own cravings. If they wish to gain lokuttara (supra-mundane) results such as Nirvana, they are regarded as careful.
