Description of manuscript content:
While the Buddha was dwelling in Kapilavatthu, he delivered a sermon to his disciples describing Dāna (alms-giving) and Sīla (morality). The results of alms-giving and observing the precepts depend on the practitioners. Those who wish to gain lokiya (mundane) results such as becoming a king, an affluent, God Indra, Brahma or an emperor are regarded as carelessness because they follow their own cravings. If they wish to gain lokuttara (supra-mundane) results such as Nirvana, they are regarded as careful.
Colophon:
Folio 35 on the recto side: In Culasakkarat thousand 2 hundred and 56 (correspond to CS 1256), a tao nyi year, on the eighth day of the waxing moon of the ninth [lunar] month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), at the time of the sunset drum (13:30–15:00), the writing of this manuscript was finished. Children, grand-children and all relatives had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Munlanipphan to be dedicated to father named Chao Hua Müang Sai who has passed away to other world. If he has been stuck in a place of suffering, please let him move to a good place. Nibbāna paccaya hotu no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ paramaṃ sukkhaṃ (May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly). Munlanipphan.
