Description of manuscript content:
While the Buddha was dwelling in Kapilavatthu, he delivered a sermon to his disciples describing Dāna (alms-giving) and Sīla (morality). The results of alms-giving and observing the precepts depend on the practitioners. Those who wish to gain lokiya (mundane) results such as becoming a king, an affluent, God Indra, Brahma or an emperor are regarded as carelessness because they follow their own cravings. If they wish to gain lokuttara (supra-mundane) results such as Nirvana, they are regarded as careful.
Colophon:
Folio 31 on the recto side: In BE 2486, CS 1304, AD 1943, a tao sanga year, on the ninth day of the waxing moon of the fourth [lunar] month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), at the time of the sunset drum (13:30–15:00), the writing of this manuscript was finished. Mae Thao Chanhòm Huakhuan had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Maha Munla-nipphan to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5 thousand years. May all my wishes and desires be fulfilled. On the other hand, may all dangers, misfortune and diseases be vanished from myself. Niccaṃ dhuvaṃ dhuvaṃ (constantly and certainly). Mae Thao Chanhòm and her children had jointly the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Munlanipphan to be dedicated to Phò Thao Thit Hüan. If he was born as a ghost, please support him to be reborn in a good place numerous times more than previously and finally entering the crystal city which is Nirvana.-
